Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has successfully thwarted a Jaish-e-Mohammad’s terror plot by shooting down a drone carrying 5-kg improvised explosive device near bordering Kanhachak area here in the city outskirts.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh told reporters that on the basis of an information last night, an alert was sounded and police teams laid an ambush.
“The drone payload was noticed at around 0100 hrs following which it was shot down,” said Mr Singh, adding that the flying object was carrying a 5-kg IED which was ready to be made functional by connecting wires.
“It was manufactured from parts made in China and Taiwan,” said the ADGP, adding that the string obtained from the drone was similar to that of the drones that dropped explosives at Jammu Air Force Base.
“The IED was to be dropped by the drone for the receiver but timely action of Jammu Police foiled the major terror plot,” he said.
Mr Singh also revealed that in the last one-and a half years, 16 AK 47s, 3 M4s, 15 grenades, 18 IDs have been found in the region.
