Srinagar, Business and other activities remained crippled on Friday due to lockdown in view of continued spike in COVID-19 cases in the Kashmir valley, where all religious and other places of worship and educational institutions are closed since March. Meanwhile, public grievance hearing which was scheduled to be held today at Lt Governor’s Grievance Cell Church Lane, Sonawar, Srinagar has been postponed. New date for the hearing will be announced shortly, an official spokesman said. However, it was not immediately clear whether the public hearing was postponed due to change of LG or due to spike in COVID-19 cases. Due to fresh increase in coronavirus positive cases, several district administrations have ordered fresh lock down. Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in summer capital, Srinagar. However, private vehicles besides three-wheelers were seen plying in the city routes. Some passenger vehicles were also plying on some routes, including on the highway from Pantha Chowk to Shalteang chowk. All major business hubs, including Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city, Budshah Chowk, Regal Chowk, Residency and Moulana Azad road, Batmaloo, Hari Singh High Street, Goni Khan and Mahraj Bazar still wore a deserted look with only security forces and some pedestrian could be seen. Goni Khan and Mahraj Bazar markets were closed with barbed wire from both sides. However, only pedestrians were allowed to move. All roads leading to the shrine of Hazrat Gousal Azam Dastigeer at Saraibala remained closed and main gate of the shrine locked.The Amira Kadal bridge, the main link between HSHS and Lal Chowk also remained closed with barbed wire. However, one of two foot paths on the bridge was open for pedestrians. There was also no change in the situation in Maisuma, the stronghold of JKLF and adjoining areas. However, private vehicles , particularly two wheelers were seen plying on Budshah Bridge on Moulana Azad road though security forces and police personnel remained deployed.
