Kovind condoles Prof Swaroop’s death


New Delhi, President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday offered condolences on the death of Govind Swarup, a pioneer of radio astronomy and described him as creator of two of the world’s largest radio telescopes in India.

Offering condolences to the bereaved family, the President said in a message “With the demise of Professor Govind Swarup, the world has lost an astronomy legend. A pioneer, he contributed to fundamental
developments in radio astronomy and created two of the world’s largest radio telescopes in India.”

Prof Swaroop, 91, died in Pune on Monday night following a brief illness.
