Odisha Records Highest Single-Day Spike

Bhubaneswar: The Covid-19 graph in Odisha continues its upward trend with the highest single-day infections of 12,390 cases in the State on Friday. This apart, at least 22 patients undergoing treatment succumbed to the virus in the State in the last 24 hours, informed a data released by the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

With this, the positive tally in the State surged to 5,88,687 while the death toll stood at 2,273. Odisha currently has 1,04,016 active cases while 4,82,345 patients have recovered from the disease so far, added the H&FW Department.

Of the new cases reported from 30 districts today, 6,938 were detected from various quarantine centres, and the rest 5,452 were detected during contact tracing, said data released by the State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Four deaths were registered in Khordha, three deaths in Angul, two each deaths in Kalahandi, Kendrapara, Rayagada and Sundargarh while one each death was reported Bolangir, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal.

Of the new cases reported on Friday, Khordha district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, detected the maximum 2,201 cases, followed by Sundargarh (882), Cuttack (719), Sambalpur (677), Angul (532) and Bargarh (507).

Rest 24 districts recorded more than 100 cases. Those are Mayurbhanj (480), Puri (469), Balangir (461), Jajpur (436), Jharsuguda (413), Bhadrak (412), Ganjam (387), Nabarangpur (362), Balasore (340), Nayagarh (301), Jagatsinghpur (259), Koraput (246), Boudh (228), Kalahandi (210), Keonjhar (208), Nuapada (204), Rayagada(187), Sonepur (178) Dhenkanal (174), Kendrapada (137), Gajapati (115), Deogarh (108), Malkangiri (103) and Kandhamal (102).

The State has so far tested a total of 1,07,69,312 samples including 56,214 on Thursday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 5.47 percent.
