Bhubaneswar: As many as 2673 new Covid cases and 16 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours in Odisha taking the total tally to 2,38,003 and 940 deaths.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said in the past 24 hours four deaths were reported from Balasore district followed by three in Khordha, two in Puri and one each in seven other districts.
Out of 2673 new cases reported from 30 districts in the state ,1554 were from the quarantine centres and 1119 are local contact cases.
Khordha district reported the maximum number of 448 cases followed by Cuttack (214), Nuapada ( 159) Kendrapara ( 151), Angul(126) and Puri (124).
Till midnight of October 5, as many as 35,24,282 tests were conducted in the state and 2,38,003 of them were found infected with coronavirus.
While 2,06,400 covid patients have been cured and discharged from the hospital, 30,610 active cases are under treatment. The covid 19 has so far claimed 940 lives.
Official sources said Khordha district has so far reported 41,150 covid cases followed by Cuttack ( 22123), Ganjam ( 20420),Puri (10796) and Sundargarh ( 8047 ).
Ganjam has topped the list in fatalities with 221 deaths followed by Khordha(154),Cuttack ( 82), Puri (63) and Sundargarh (41).
For the second day today, Odisha reported Covid cases less than 3000 mark and only six districts have reported more than one hundred new cases .
Meanwhile, the Odisha Government has initiated steps to start Favipiravir therapy for Covid patients in home isolation.
Faviparavir has become an acceptable practice among Covid-19 positive persons in home isolation of asymptomatic and mild cases,Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy said.
