Bhubaneswar: Covid positive cases in Odisha continued to rise over 6000 cases every day for the last four days while the active cases in the state surged to over 45,000 on Sunday.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said 6116 new covid cases were reported form 30 districts in the past 24 hours while seven more covid patients succumbed to the virus taking the covid toll in the state to 1988.
With the detection of 3546 covid infection from the quarantine centres and 2570 local contact cases the covid tally in the state went up to 407457, registering 4.12 percent positive cases in the state.
The recovery cases rose to 359467 with 3464 covid patients being cured and recovered from the virus.
Official sources said as many as 18 districts in the state have reported more than 100 cases of which seven districts have registered over 300 cases.
Khordha district continued to remain top with 875 new cases in last 24 hours followed by Sundfagarh (785), Nuapada ( 430),Cuttack (343),Jajpur ( 324),Kalahandi (321) and Nabarangpur ( 318 ).
During the last 24 hours eight covid patients, two from rayagada district and one each from Khordha, Ganjam ,Kalaahndi,Sundargarh and Puri succumbed to the virus while undergoing treatment.
As far as total number of covid cases are concerned four districts Khordha(61185),Cuttack(33044), Sundargarh ( 25,312) and Ganjam (23308) have reported the highest number of cases.
Similarly, the highest number of covid deaths of344 were reported from Khordha followed by Ganjam ( 256),Sundargarh ( 181),Cuttack ( 144) and Puri (120).
Normal life in urban areas across the state hit for the second consecutive day today following the weekend shut down clamped by the state government in bid to contain the spread of covid 19.
Anticipating that there might be an influx of migrant workers in the wake of lock down and shut down in some states,the Odisha government has decided to open cluster Temporary Medical Centres(CTMC) at the Zilla Parishad zone level to provide institutional quarantines to the migrant workers returning to Odisha.
Meanwhile,the state government has directed the authorities at the district level to provide security to the doctors and other health workers deployed at the Covid hospitals, Covid centres and Covid care centres.
The government also asked the Fire services Department to take adequate measures to prevent any fire mishaps in the covid hospitals.The Odisha Fire Service department has deployed its personnel in 48 dedicated covid hospitals in the state.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has revised its order allowing any person coming from West Bengal to the state to stay seven day home quarantine instead of earlier 14 days home quarantine for having the RT- PCR negative 48 hours before arrival and a certificate of two doses of vaccination.
The government had exempted persons coming from West Bengal on emergency official work as well as those on election duty from undergoing 14days mandatory quarantine.
Al the check posts bordering WesT Bengal have been put on high alert and ensure that nobody from West Bengal entered into the state without the RT- PCR negative report and final vaccination certificate
