Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported a decline in covid cases as 7729 new infections were reported from 30 districts in the past 24 hours taking the tally to 7,98,699.
For the first time after May 29, the daily caseload has come down to below 8 K as on May 28 last the state registered 7188 new cases.
Out of 7729 new cases, 4331 were reported from the quarantine centres and 3398 as local contact cases.
Khordha district continues to be on the top of the district tally with 1062 cases followed by Cuttack (720), Angul (449), Balasore(426), Mayurbhanj( 442) and Puri ( 333).
Official sources claimed that several districts in the state have shown a remarkable dip in the new covid cases over the past few days and the Total Positivity Rate(TPR) of the state has further declined to 11.2 per cent.
With the recovery of 10,434 people on Thursday, the total recoveries in the state touched 7,13,055. During the last 12 consecutive days, the daily recovery cases had outnumbered the daily covid load.
The active cases also further reduced to 82,679. As many as seven of the 30 districts in the state now have less than 1000 active cases. Khordha district has 11,470 active cases, the highest in the state while Nuapada district has the lowest number of 412 active cases.
Official sources said till midnight of June 3 last about 1,20,40,830 tests were conducted in the state and 7,98,699 people, about 6.63 per cent, have been found infected with the coronavirus.
During the past 24 hours, 39 more covid patients succumbed to the virus while undergoing treatment at various covid hospitals. They included a maximum of six from Khordha district followed by three each in Angul, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Sundargarh.
Six districts in the state reported two deaths each and another six districts registered one death each.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has meanwhile sanctioned Rs 15 crore from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to Cuttack Municipal Corporation to further strengthen Covid Management.
With the additional release of funds, Cuttack Municipal Corporation has so far received Rs 41 crore on covid, he said.
Mr Patnaik said a special Covid package has been announced by the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Development Department to protect the State’s Primitive tribal group from Covid.
Various arrangements like dry ration kits of Rs 2500 and Rs 1,400 incentive to stay in the Quarantine Center to the infected families of the Particularly vulnerable tribal group, earlier Primitive tribal group (PVTG) have been provided by the department.
