Pathanamthitta (Kerala), The second Orange alert, prior to the opening of the shutters of Pamba dam to release excess water due to torrential rains in the catchment areas, has been issued on Sunday.District Collector PB Nooh urged people residing near the branches of Pamba river to be highly cautious as the dam shutters can be opened anytime when the water level touches 985 metres.”On August 7, the water level rose to 983.05 metres after receiving 207 mm rains in the area flowing 12.36 mcm water to the dam. If the rain continues, the water level is likely to touch 983.5 metres in one hour time,” he added.”Hence, the Orange alert has been issued. The Red alert will be issued when the water level reaches at 984.5 metres. After that the shutters will be opened at any time when the water level touches 985 metres,” the Collector said.
