Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (AP) on Sunday said that there was no clarity on the restoration of statehood when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the holding of elections in the erstwhile state which was downgraded and divided into two Union Territories (UTs).Prime minister Modi during his address from Red Fort on the 74th Independence Day on Saturday announced that polls will be conducted soon in the UT. He said once the delimitation, which is underway in the Jammu and Kashmir, will be completed, the election will be held in the UT and J&K will have its own Chief Minister and ministers, he said adding we are committed to this.However, Mr Modi did not mention if the elections will be held after restoring statehood to UT or not.”PM on Independence Day at Red Fort made mention of holding elections in J&K. No clarity on Statehood”, the former minister and senior AP leader Ghulam Hassan Mir said on Sunday.He said Government of India (GoI) should restore statehood ” earlier the death”. Before the elections, the statehood should be restored. He said GoI should release all political leaders and hold dialogue.However, he said political parties should also be built a consensus for the restoration of statehood.The former minister said the bureaucracy will never encourage statehood and holding of elections.Earlier, the AP leaders had pledged to continue its fight to restore the statehood in J&K, protection of rights of locals, on Independence Day yesterday.The erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir were divided into two UTs after centre abrogated Article 370 and 35 A on August 5, when all leaders of mainstream and separatist parties were arrested and communication network, including landline phones, suspended.
