Bhubaneswar: In a major development in Jharaphula Nayak death case, the Jajpur Police in association with the Commissionerate Police today nabbed a youth in Airfield area in Bhubaneswar for his alleged involvement in the matter.
A team of Jajpur Police along with the Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police today raided a place in Sundarpada area and detained the youth, Rakesh Swain for questioning. Later Rakesh was arrested and handed over to the Jajpur police.
A Jajpur police official said Jharaphula, a native of Mayurbhanj district and a student of the RD Women’s University, was murdered in Bhubaneswar. The accused, Rakesh attempted to destroy the evidence after killing the young woman.
To dump the body of Jharaphula, Rakesh along with his friend took her on a two-wheeler and went to Jajpur. Based on CCTV footage, Rakesh, the young woman’s male friend, was identified. He was riding pillion on the two-wheeler while keeping the body of Jharaphula in a sitting position, the police official added.
Rakesh’s friend who was riding the two-wheeler is absconding. A DSP will probe the murder case, the police official informed.
A young woman’s body was found under mysterious circumstances at Mulapala under Kuakhia police limits in Jajpur district on January 27. Also, a bag was found near the body. Police were able to identify the young woman’s body as Jharaphula after getting details of the items found in the bag.
