Pondy LG shares reactions on COVID-19 received on her WhatsApp

Puducherry, Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Monday shared reactions she received on Corona Virus Disease (COVID 19) on her WhatsApp.One of such feedback she shared on her WhatsApp says that the high number of COVID cases in Puducherry is worrisome and we are now the topmost state if you look at the cases per lakh of population. The situation on Saturday was pathetic with no checks and balances and knowing very well the public behaviour, the police failed to control. This is not to blame anyone as the public are equally to blame, but if we give some extra care and be ruthless on violations and booking people on violations, the situation can be controlled.Same is with traffic regulations as well, as triple riding is quite common even in traffic signals, talking on mobile on two-wheelers, cars and heavy vehicles is also a common sight. Wearing a seat belt? It is a joke in Puducherry even in government vehicles. Helmets? do not even mention it. One of the highest auto fares in India and the list is quite long.Where are we failing? A public with no civic sense, a police force with too many limitations and control from the ruling section. Unless the people bring in self-discipline along with a sense of strict law implementation, things are going to be even worse for us. Why is it that even bigger cities can implement with even limited number of police/population, cannot be implemented in Puducherry?Another comment she received on her WhatsApp says that in Puducherry 82 healthcare workers have COVID and one died after contracting the virus. So what stops the health department to initiate a response to mitigate the viral spread among its vulnerable population. Why were no separate wards made yet for doctors and other healthcare workers in Puducherry which is there everywhere? Is that paucity of funds or paucity of self-drive. The irony is that the health secretary is also a medical post-graduate.
