Prime Minister’s Garib Kalyan Yojna to be discontinued: Govt

New Delhi: The Government on Friday clarified that it does not intend to continue the ”Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana” launched in the wake of the Corona pandemic.

Minister of State for Consumer, Food and Public Distribution Danve Raosaheb stated this in response to a supplementary question in the House.

There are no plans to carry forward the scheme as it was meant only for the Corona period and not beyond it, he added.

The scheme was launched in March 2020 in the wake of the pandemic and under it, the government had distributed free food grains among approximately 80 crore people.

In response to another question, the Minister said the government stocks the food grains properly, and since 2014, no individual has ever received rotten grains under the Public Distribution System.

The government is now reaching out to the people even in the far-flung areas to deliver food grains, Raosaheb said.
