Pune Resort Raid: 72 held


Pune, Sixty businessmen and twelve women have been arrested and assets worth over Rs 43 lakh seized during a raid at the Lonavala-based famous Kumar Resort, stated Sub Divisional Police Officer(SDPO) Navneet Kanvat on Wednesday.Talking to UNI, the SDPO told that these accused businessmen are Gujarat natives and had travelled by flight and private cars to reach the resort located off Pune-Mumbai Highway. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Pune Rural police raided the resort on Tuesday night and discovered a gambling pit being operated there.”A gambling pit was set up in a big assembly hall at the resort and card games were being played. Both cash and gambling chips were being used. The women were hired as servers,” apprised SDPO Kanvat.”Cash over Rs 3 lakh and gambling chips having face value of over Rs 40 lakh were also seized from the spot,” he added. Assistant Inspector Vaibhav Swami said, “We have also booked the Director and Manager of the resort. The suspects have been booked under Maharashtra Anti-Gambling legislation as well as The Epidemic Diseases Act, among other legal provisions.”
