Shah pays tribute to Hockey legend Major Dhyanchand on 115th anniversary


New Delhi: Paying rich tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that his talent, achievements and devotion towards the motherland continues to inspire the generation to come. Taking to twitter, he said, “Tributes to wizard of hockey Major Dhyan Chand ji on his jayanti. A phenomenal legend, who won three Olympic gold medals & mesmerised millions through his magical technique. His talent, achievements & devotion towards the motherland continues to inspire the generations to come”. The anniversary of Dhyan Chand on August 29 is celebrated as ‘National Sports Day’ in India.
Under aegis of Major Dhyan Chand , India won gold thrice in hockey in Olympic in 1929, 1932 and 1936.


The Home Minister also greeted sportsperson on the occasion of National Sports Day.
In another tweet message, Mr Shah said ” On National Sports Day, I salute all our sportsperson who have been making India proud through their passion and hard work”.
The Modi Government is committed and playing an instrumental role in promoting sports and nurturing the young talent through initiatives like ‘Khelo India and Fit India’, he further said in his message.
