Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin on Friday met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party MP Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi. In a tweet, tagging a photo of the meeting, Rahul Gandhi
said ”Congress President Smt.Sonia Gandhi and I had the pleasure of meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Shri M. K. Stalin and Smt. Durgavathy Stalin earlier today.” “We will keep working with the DMK to build a strong and prosperous state for the Tamil people”, he added.
This is the first meeting Mr Stalin had with Ms Sonia and Mr Rahul after the DMK-led alliance, in which the Congress is also a partner, won the recent Assembly elections in the State with total of 159 seats in the 234-member Assembly. The DMK won 133 seats and secured a simple majority, while its allies Congress, VCK, CPI and CPI-M won 18, four and two seats each respectively.
Mr Stalin, in his first visit to New Delhi after becoming Chief Minister for the first time, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi last evening and ubmitted a memorandum on the issues concerning the State.He was also expected to meet other alliance party leaders before returning to Chennai later today.
