Agartala, Tripura government has leased out the service of 9th battalion
of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) to South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), Bilaspur to provide security in mining activities across Chhattisgarh for three year. The state home department sources said except for some ministerial staff, the entire battalion having1007 jawans and armed officers of different ranks would be leaving for Bilaspur soon. Before reaching the jawans, Commandant of 13th battalion, currently
posted at Delhi, would hold discussion on force deployment plan with Coalfields
authority next week.
According to report, Tripura government has won the deal of SECL in a competitive
bidding process. The CISF has been providing security to 89 mining fields in Naxalite
prone areas of Chhattisgarh which would be replaced by TSR.
TSR is an elite armed force of Tripura was raised during insurgency in 90’s and it has
a glorious contribution in counter- insurgency operations. After 2007, most of the TSR
battalions have become ideal and have been mobilised in civil policing including traffic
management.
TSR has success stories in conducting elections across India, security duty in last
Commonwealth games and disaster management.
