Will world witness UNGA’s “24 hours of non-violence”

New Delhi, It makes no sense if China -India ‘conflict’ resumes in Ladakh region after adhering to “24 hours of non-violence” called by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 21 – the World Peace Day, 2020. But, according to political pandits on Saturday, the question is doing the rounds whether the ‘symbolic peace posture’ is even possible by Chinese and Indian soldiers on that very day considering the present intense standoff along the LAC. Informatively, in 2001, the UNGA had voted to call for “Non-violence and cease-fire” on the World Peace Day. The UN body had encouraged all countries to observe the day by maintaining “24 hours of non-violence.” International Day of Peace (World Peace Day) is observed every year on September 21. It is a United Nations-designated Day. Interestingly, against the backdrop of the current China-India standoff, the theme for World Peace Day (WPD),2020 is “Shaping Peace Together”. Some quarters are of the view that being the country of Mahatma Gandhi, India has a huge ‘legacy’ of contributing to world peace. The ‘confusion’ of political pandits regarding observations of “24 hours of non-violence” by China, India on Monday and the ‘desired role’ of the latter came ahead of the 152nd birthday of Father of the Nation on October 2.
