Pathanamthitta, A woman and her daughter were contesting in the local body election as Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidates from wards of different panchayats in this district.The local body poll will start in the state from December 8.
Valsamma Mathew (69) is contesting from Mallappuzhassery division of Elanthur blockpanchayat, her daughter Neena Mathew (49) in Ward seven of Kottangal panchayat as LDF candidates.Valsamma is the former president of Elanthur block panchayat. A first-timer, Neena is the wife of CPI-M sympathiser Babu Varghese.Their son Abin Babu is currently representing the ward from where she is contesting.Janapaksham (Secular) leader and Poonjar MLA P C George has entrusted his son ShaunGeorge with the responsibility of proving the party’s clout in Poonjar and Kanjirappally
regions.Kerala Janapaksham is fielding candidates in four Kottayam district panchayat divisions that come under the MLA’s Poonjar assembly constituency, Shaun is leading the troop by contesting from Poonjar division.The inconvenient schedule of electioneering was not about to stop Lavanya, who contests the poll from ward 15 of Maravanthuruth, near Vaikom, from entering into wedlock with her fiance on Tuesday.A former activist of All India Students Federation, she had been engaged to Sarath much before the local body poll were announced. The bride also chose the occasion to seek votes from her well wishers who attended the marriage.Two of her rival candidates, also came to extend their wishes to the newly married couple.
