Agartala, The social media post of a young doctor in Tripura after death of her 82-yrs old grandmother in Covid hospital here has embarrassed Biplab Kumar Deb government and raised question of reliability of the raid antigen kits followed by treatment.Dr Abhiksha Das, an MBBS passed out from Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) has now been practicing in London released the video narrating the fragile healthcare system of Tripura. She alleged that her grandmother Binapani Roy was taken to state referral hospital IGM here on July 31 last after she fall down in bathroom and became sub-conscious.”As per Covid protocol, she was administered rapid test and within 5 minutes the declared her positive, which is absurd and immediately shifted to Covid hospital at AGMC. Me and my sister ? also a doctor in NIMHANS in Bengaluru have with her in ICU with PPE for three days in 12 hrs alternative shifts but no treatment was given to her,” Dr Das alleged.According to Abhiksha, being a student of AGMC, she was told that RTPCR test of the patient would be done on emergency basis but unfortunately the sample was collected after two days. During this time she was put in dirty ICU and as such no treatment of her actual problems was given because of the perception that she was Covid positive. After three days, she died in the hospital before her report came. Accordingly, she was cremated in isolation like other Covid patients. And, next day her report came and found her negative, Dr Das said and questioned, “If people die without treatment only because they were diagnosed positive or being made positive in false test report. Even if anybody infected with Covid doesn’t mean that he/she will be deprived of treatment of the actual disease.”The opposition political parties trained gun against the government for it’s failure to ensure treatment in the state and demanded high level enquiry into each of the 42 deaths so far termed as caused due to Covid-19 in the state in last three months and also, to fix up responsibility on the concerned officials.”I don’t know who has formulated the protocol to send all co-morbid patients having other health complications to Covid ward and left there without any treatment only because they are infected with coronavirus. If it is the case, all of them will certainly die without treatment in the hospital. No way, it is expectable,” observed senior Congress leader and former MLA Gopal Roy.He doubts that the deaths have so far been reported due to Covid was might not be the fact, which the government is trying to mislead the people that also spread panic. He sought the immediate intervention of Union health ministry over the healthcare system of Tripura before it goes out of control. Both the CPI (M) and INPT have also accused Tripura government of being failed to manage Covid situation and improve the healthcare system in the state. They further alleged that over past one year, the health services in Tripura have deteriorated very fast in terms of treatment, infrastructure and management.Earlier, the opposition parties had demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge of Tripura High Court over the alleged malfunctioning of ventilation in Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) that was allegedly disrupted central oxygen supply system and caused the death of patients in ICU.However, there was no response from the state government over the allegations.
